Most of my students begin to work with a college counselor their freshman or sophomore year. The earlier you start, the less stress you will feel when the time comes to write personal statements and submit applications and it gives the counelor time to really get to know your student.
Meeting days and times are flexible to work with the student's schedule. We can meet in person, via zoom or have a phone call. How often we meet will depend on where we are in the process, there are seasons during the process that we will meet monthly and other seasons when we will meet weekly.
This is a personal choice but most colleges, unless they are test blind, will still consider test scores. Test scores can help your overall application or hurt it depending on several factors and we will work together to decide if you should include them.
The majority of the students I work with apply to between 8-12 schools. I usually suggest, if they apply to 10 schools, that they apply to 2 reach schools, 5 target schools and 3 safety schools. There are exceptions to this, specifically with students who are applying to art schools. Depending on your specific interests we will develop a college list that you are excited about.
As part of my college counseling package, we will review the FAFSA, Merit Aid, Scholarships, and other loans to maximize the amount of financial support you will receive.
Reach out to me for a free 60-minute consultation. We will cover the basics and go over the college application time line. I will answer any of your questions during that time.
I have visited over 200 colleges in the past few years all over the United States.
